Microsoft Releases Official Statement Explaining Bings Outage

Just a few minutes ago, Microsoft’s Senior Vice President, Satya Nadella released a statement on the Official Bing Blog about tonight’s outage. Apparently, Bing was down from 6:30 PM to 7:00 PM Pacific Time. As we all know, the website greeted you with an error message during that time.

According to Nadella, this is what happened: “The cause of the outage was a configuration change during some internal testing that had unfortunate and unintended consequences. As soon as the issue was detected, the change was rolled back, which caused the site to return to normal behavior.

Unfortunately the detection and rollback took about half an hour, and during that time users were unable to use bing.com.” He goes on to say that they are doing everything possible now to prevent this kind of thing from happening again.
