The last word of the phone, ‘Social’, gives an indication of some special feature in it, as this phone has been specially made for those, who are quite active on face book, a social media website. One could not access its details as it clearly states ‘coming soon’.

It seems the phone has been inspired by its competitors, Chacha and Vodafone 555 Blue, which are face book centric phone. One of the economic phones, ever launched by Motorola has one button on it keypad, which is dedicated to Facebook.

By using this button, one could access his Facebook account, comment on others wall and could even share picture. There are loads of other features in the phone, which makes it a must buy.

Some of those exciting features are 3MP camera with focus facility that comes in digital camera, captivating touch screen of 2.4-inch and inbuilt internet and Bluetooth is also there with recording facility at 30fps.

One of the cashing points of this phone is its batter back up. This 910mAh integrated battery backup could be put on standby for more than 672 hours and has 480 minutes of usage. Though price has not been mentioned in the website or has been revealed by the company officials, it is suspected that it could give competition to other giants present in the market.

They have catch the central nerve of youth by making a phone specially dedicated to Facebook users. Now, it has to be seen that whether it would be able to impress youth populace, which its predecessors, Chacha and Salsa could not do. For now, every Facebook centric phone has flopped in the market, therefore putting the pressure on Motorola’s MotoKey Social phone.

Microsoft bug spread Duqu virus

Posted in : It News

(added few months ago!)

Microsoft Corp said hackers exploited a previously unknown bug in its Windows operating system to infect computers with the Duqu virus, which some security experts say could be the next big cyber threat.

"We are working diligently to address this issue and will release a security update for customers," Microsoft said in a short statement.

News of Duqu surfaced in October when security software maker Symantec Corp said it had found a mysterious computer virus that contained code similar to Stuxnet, a piece of malicious software believed to have wreaked havoc on Iran's nuclear program.

Government and private investigators around the world are racing to unlock the secret of Duqu, with early analysis suggesting that it was developed by sophisticated hackers to help lay the groundwork for attacks on critical infrastructure such as power plants, oil refineries and pipelines.

Details on how Duqu got onto infected machines emerged for the first time on Tuesday as Microsoft disclosed its link to the infection. Separately, Symantec researchers said they believe hackers sent the virus to targeted victims via emails with tainted Microsoft Word documents attached.

If a recipient opened the Word document and infected the PC, the attacker could take control of the machine and reach into an organization's network to propagate itself and hunt for data, Symantec researcher Kevin Haley told Reuters.

He said some of the source code used in Duqu was also used in Stuxnet, a cyber weapon believed to have crippled centrifuges that Iran uses to enrich uranium. That suggests that the attackers behind Stuxnet either gave that code to the developers of Duqu, allowed it to be stolen, or are the same people who built Duqu, Haley said.

Facebook to build server farm on edge of Arctic Circle

Posted in : It News

(added few months ago!)

The enormous server farm facility in Luleå, northern Sweden, to be announced officially on Thursday morning, is the first time that the social networking giant has chosen to locate a server farm outside the US. "The climate will allow them to just use only air for cooling the servers," said Mats Engman, chief executive of the Aurorum Science Park, which is leading the push to turn the city into a 'Node Pole', luring in other international computing giants.

"If you take the statistics, the temperature has not been above 30C [86F] for more than 24 hours since 1961. If you take the average temperature, it's around 2C [35.6F]."Luleå is situated at the northern tip of the Baltic Sea, just over 62 miles South of the Arctic Circle. Taking advantage of the rock bottom temperatures, Facebook plans to build three giant server halls covering an area the size of 11 football fields.

Even though they will rely on air cooling, keeping the servers humming will still require 120MW of power, enough to supply 16,000 detached homes, and costing some £45m a year. These power needs will be met by renewable electricity generated by dams on the nearby Luleå river.
"The Luleå river produces twice as much electricity as the Hoover Dam does, so 50 per cent is exported from our region. There is a surplus of energy, and we can supply more data centres in this area easily," Engman said.

He said Facebook's engineers had also been attracted by the reliability of the local power grid, which has been built to supply the area's thriving iron, steel and paper industries, and also by Sweden's dense fibre-optic network.

"Sweden has the highest penetration in the world of fibre to households, so it is very well connected," said Engman. "You can get very easily through Finland into Eastern Europe and Russia."Facebook becomes the latest to look to Northern Europe for server farms. Microsoft in 2007 said it was in discussions to build a sever farm in Siberia, but the deal has never materialised.

Google in 2009 bought a disused paper mill in Hamima in southern Finland, where it has been building a server farm, although it has been attracted more by the availability of cheap hydroelectric power.
Tom Furlong, Facebook's Director of Site Operations, is flying to Luleå today ahead of a press conference, when Facebook will give a full outline of its plans.

Mr Furlong's team looked at more than 40 sites in Sweden alone, before narrowing their list down earlier this year to a choice of Luleå and Östersund, a town in Central Sweden. Mr Furlong led development on Facebook's first server farm in Prineville, Oregon, which also relies on air cooling, relying mainly on the town's chilly desert nights and cold winters, only using cooling during the summer days.

According to IT News Africa, the cellco has rolled out HSPA technology, offering theoretical downlink speeds of up to 21Mbps, with Beston Tshinsele, managing director at Airtel Congo stating of the development: ‘We are grateful to the Republic of Congo, represented by The Honorable Minister of Posts, Telecommunications and New Technology of Communications Thierry Moungalla today, for issuing the licence through the country’s regulator – [the] Agence de Regulation des Postes et des Communications Electroniques – and sharing our vision of enhancing the country’s telecommunication platform … Our 3G platform will allow subscribers to combine the enormous potential of the internet with the convenience of cellular phones and other devices.’

Tiemoko Coulibaly, CEO of Airtel Africa Francophone, meanwhile outlined the Indian company’s wider expectations for 3G deployment across Africa, noting: ‘3G technology will give our customers the opportunity to interact with data in a different way … This is why Airtel doesn’t see 3G as a product but a platform that enables the community expand its social and commercial horizons, alongside the rest of the world.’ According to the executive Airtel expects to continue rolling out 3G technology across all regions of operation in Africa with the objective of building the largest 3G network on the continent.

In order to achieve these goals, and as previously reported by CommsUpdate, last month it was revealed that Finnish telecommunications equipment vendor Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) had inked a deal with Bharti Airtel to expand the operator’s 2G infrastructure and deploy 3G networks in seven African countries. Under the agreement, NSN agreed to manage end-to-end network operations, including planning, designing and implementing the 2G and 3G networks for Airtel in the markets of Madagascar, Malawi, Congo Brazzaville, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia. The vendor will provide its energy-efficient Flexi Multiradio Base Stations to expand network coverage to underserved areas, including smaller towns and villages in the seven countries. NSN is using its FlexiHybrid microwave radio to address growing data traffic and provide the platform for a cost-effective transition to 3G, and potentially 4G Long Term Evolution (LTE) networks in the future. The company will also provide its NetAct network management system for effective network monitoring and management.

The Internet search leader released the snapshot in a Tuesday update on its website. The breakdown provides a country-by-country summary of Google Inc.'s legal sparring with authorities during the first six months of the year.
