Microsoft will launch latest state-of-the-art surface technology in Pakistan on December 14, 2011, said Platform Group Manager, Microsoft Pakistan Tahir Masood while addressing a seminar on “Microsoft Developer Network Academic Alliance (MSDNAA)” jointly organised by the Information Technology Resource Centre, Databank and the Department of Computer Sciences, UAF. He said that surface technology was a multi-touch product that allowed a user, or multiple users, to manipulate digital content by the use of gesture recognition.
This could involve the motion of hands or physical objects. He said that Imagine Cup 2012 would be held in Australia in which students from UAF should participate. He said Imagine Cup 2012 was an annual competition sponsored and hosted by Microsoft Corporation, which brings together young technologists world-wide to help resolve some of the world’s toughest challenges.
He said that in Imagine Cup 2010, as many as 35 million people had been registered in a bid to prove their mettle on the horizon of the information technology and to avert the various crises facing the world. He said that students from National University of Science and Technology (NUST) had submitted 43 projects while FAST submitted 100 projects in the said competition.
He said NED University Karachi clinched the second position in Asia pacific. He said that it was the best opportunity to showcase their skills in the form of the project at the international level.
He said that as many as 57 percent of the people had been using the internet so it was the best time to capture the market by using their skills. He said that the Microsoft has launched a portal for the one million students and 41,000 teaching staff from where they can download the educational stuff like books etc free of cost.
